I Convertitore di Media PoE 10/100/1000 da Ethernet a Fibra di Perle rappresentano una soluzione economica per aumentare l'estensione di una rete esistente mediante il cablaggio in fibra. Gestione dell'alimentazione avanzata |

Riavvio PD | Ideale per il riavvio in remoto delle apparecchiature, questa funzionalità configurabile consente di eseguire un momentaneo ripristino dell'alimentazione del Powered Device (PD) collegato. Auto-Negotiation (802.3u) | Il Convertitore di Media supporta la negoziazione automatica. L'interfaccia in fibra 1000Base-X effettua la negoziazione secondo lo standard 802.3 37. L'interfaccia 10/100/1000Base-T effettua la negoziazione secondo lo standard 802.3 28 e 40. L'interfaccia 1000Base-X si collegherà al suo corrispondente una volta raggiunto l'HCD (Highest Common Denominator) ed effettuata la connessione dell'interfaccia in rame con il suo corrispondente. L'interfaccia 1000Base-X continuerà a ripetere la negoziazione trasmettendo una segnalazione di dispositivo remoto offline (purché questa sia abilitata mediante l'impostazione dello switch) fino a quando la rete in rame non si collega e gli HCD non corrispondono. Il Convertitore di Media supporta l'auto-negotiation nelle seguenti condizioni: full duplex, half duplex, guasto remoto, pausa full duplex, pausa asimmetrica e Auto-MDIX. |
Auto-MDIX | Quando è abilitata, la funzione Auto-MDIX (Automatic Medium-Dependant Interface Crossover) rileva i segnali sull'interfaccia Ethernet in rame per determinare il tipo di cavo collegato (incrociato o passante diretto) e configura automaticamente la connessione. Il Convertitore di Media è inoltre in grado di effettuare correzioni per compensare gli errori di disposizione dei fili in una coppia. Il Convertitore di Media è in grado di compensare fino a un massimo di 120 ns di delay skew (differenza di ritardo) tra le coppie 1000Base-T. |
Smart Link Pass-Through | Quando lo switch Link Mode viene messo in modalità Smart Link Pass-Through, la porta Ethernet in rame rispecchia lo stato della porta 1000Base-X del Convertitore di Media. Power (PWR)
This green LED is turned on when power is applied to the media converter. Otherwise it is off. The LED will blink slowly when either fiber port is in Loopback test mode. The LED will blink quickly if there is a hardware failure where the reason code can be identified through a combination of FDF,LKF, FDC and PSE indicator LEDs
Fiber link on / Receive activity (LKF 1/2)
- This green LED is operational only when power is applied. The LED will blink along with transmit/receive data on the fiber port.
- If a loss of link on the copper port results in a Link Passthrough condition to the fiber port, this LED will blink at a rate of once every 2 seconds until the condition is cleared.
Copper link on / Receive activity (LKC 1/2)
- This green LED is operational only when power is applied. The LED will blink along with transmit/receive data on the 10/100/1000 UTP port
- If a loss of link on the copper port results in a Link Passthrough condition to the fiber port, this LED will blink at a rate of once every 2 seconds until the condition is cleared.
Fiber Duplex (FDF 1/2)

Copper Duplex (FDC 1/2)
This green LED is operational only when power is applied. The LED is on when the 10/100/1000Base-T link is operational in full duplex mode. The LED is off when in half duplex
100/1000
This multi-color LED is operational only when power is applied. The LED is green when the speed of the copper ethernet port is running at 1000 Mbps. The LED is yellow when the speed of the copper Ethernet port is running at 100 Mbps. The LED is off when in 10 Mbps.
PSE Status (PSE 1/2)

Auto-Negotiation (802.3u)
- Enabled (Default) - The media converter uses 802.3u Auto-negotiation on the 10/100/1000Base-T interface. It is set to advertise full duplex, half duplex, pause and remote fault capabilities.
- Disabled - The media converter sets the port according to the position of the speed and duplex switches.
Link Mode
Link Mode provides a transparency to the state of the copper link allowing for simplified trouble shooting from the devices connected to the media converter.
Normal (Default — Up)
- With Fiber Auto Negotiation enabled when the copper link goes down the 1000Base-X link is brought down. The 1000Base-X link will advertise Remote Fault (Link Fault).
- With Fiber Auto Negotiation disabled the state of the copper link has no effect on the 1000Base-X link.
Smart Link Pass Through (Down)
- With Fiber Auto Negotiation enabled the behavior is as follows. When the copper link goes down the 1000Base-X link is brought down. The 1000Base-X link will advertise Remote Fault (Link Fault). When Remote Fault (Link Fault) is received on the 1000Base-X interface the copper transmitter will be turned off. When the copper receiver is off the 1000Base-X transmitter will be turned off. When the 1000Base-X receiver goes off the copper transmitter will be turned off.
- With Fiber Auto-Negotiation disabled the behavior is as follows. When the copper receiver is off the 1000Base-X transmitter will be turned off. When the 1000Base-X receiver goes off the copper transmitter will be turned off.
Effect on 3 and 4 port units: pass-through conditions will be recognized when the state of both copper UTP or fiber port pairs are the same. IE only if both copper ports go down will the fiber port on a 3 port unit be forced inactive.
Fiber Fault Alert
- The Fiber Fault Alert switch has meaning when Auto-Negotiation is disabled

Loopback (1/2)
The media converter can perform a loopback on the 1000Base-X fiber interface.
- Disabled (Default - Up)
- Enabled - The 1000Base-X receiver is looped to the 1000Base-X transmitter. The copper transmitter is taken off the interface.

- On dual fiber units, if one or both ports have loopback enable, all copper ports are disabled, but PoE power is maintained. The other fiber port is unaffected.

Fiber Negotiation
- Up: The Media Converter will negotiate Ethernet parameters on the fiber connection. This will ensure that the most optimal connection parameters will be in effect. If connecting to another Perle Media Converter, this parameter should be set to Auto. The Media Converter Module will advertise 1000Mbps, Full and Half Duplex, no Pause.
- Down: The Media Converter Module’s fiber will be fixed to 1000Mbps, Full Duplex.
Auto-MDIX (Internal Strap)
- If Auto-Negotiation (802.3u) is enabled, the media converter determines the current cable pinout to use on the copper interface. If Auto-Negotiation (802.3u) is disabled the Media converter will use the RX Energy method on the copper interface to set the port MDI or MDIX whichever is appropriate.
- Enabled (Default) - Either a straight-through or crossover type cable can be used to connect the media converter to the device on the other end of the cable.
- Disabled - If the partner device on the other end of the cable does not have the Auto-MDIX feature a specific cable, either a straight-through or crossover will be required to ensure that the media converter's transmitter and the partner devices transmitter are connected to the others receiver. The Media converter's 100Base-TX port is configured as MDI-X with this switch setting.
PSE Power
- Settable for each UTP port available.
- When enabled (UP), the media converter will perform a Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) function as per IEEE802.3bt standard.
- Default is 'enabled'
PD Power Reset
- This is a technique to perform a power reset on a PD device(s) attached.
- When enabled (down), the media converter will upon loss of link on any fiber port, turn off PSE output power to the PD device(s) for 2 seconds then turn the power back on. The power remains on until any fiber link transitions from up to down again.
- With Passthrough enabled (Link Mode enabled and Fiber Auto-Negotiation enabled) , a loss of link on the fiber resulting from a loss of link on the copper, a PD Power Reset till still occur.
- When PD Power Reset disabled, loss of fiber link has no effect on PSE power to the PD device(s).
Fiber Redundancy (Dual Fiber Models)
When disabled (default), the ports will operate as a 3 or 4 port switch
When enabled (Down) the media converter treats Fiber 1 as the primary. If the link fails, the fiber link is switched over to fiber 2 within 50ms.
- While the primary is active, the link on port 2 will be maintained, but the port will not pass data
A redundancy switch-over will not occur if the fiber link was brought down as a result of link pass-through from a copper port.
Redundant Primary (Dual Fiber Models)
If the 'Fiber Redundancy' feature is also enabled, the primary fiber 1 link is continuously monitored and if is restored for at least 6 seconds, the link will be switched back from the secondary fiber 2 port to the primary fiber 1 port

Fibra Gigabit per Videocamere IP
Connessione di videocamere IP 10/100/1000 a una dorsale Gigabit
Estensione della portata a videocamere IP mediante l'impiego di Convertitore di Media in fibra. Le videocamere di sicurezza vengono generalmente installate in posizioni remote all'interno di un edificio. Nel caso di videocamere installate in controsoffitti o in altri punti difficilmente accessibili, quali tetti di edifici, lampioni, lungo recinzioni, tubazioni e percorsi di transito, i costi associati alla fornitura dell'alimentazione elettrica a ogni singola videocamera vengono eliminati mediante l'alimentazione dell'intera apparecchiatura, grazie a un cavo UTP e un convertitore di media PoE. Per le videocamere con meccanismo Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) che potrebbero richiedere maggiore potenza, sono disponibili i modelli PoE+ in grado di fornire fino a 30 watt. I modelli PoE+ possono anche essere necessari per le videocamere impiegate in ambienti freddi che presentano dispositivi anti-ghiaccio e ventilatori.
La fibra viene implementata da un data closet esistente a un'area con accesso all'alimentazione. Un Convertitore di Media PoE, alimentato a 48 V CC oppure con tensione standard da 100-240 V CA, viene collegato all'alimentazione elettrica e al cavo in fibra. L'estensione della rete Ethernet in rame (su cavo UTP o STP) può così essere aumentata di altri 100 metri verso la videocamera IP. Il Convertitore di Media PoE provvede alla conversione dei dati dalla fibra al rame, integrando l'alimentazione da trasmettere alla videocamera di sicurezza.
Per semplificare il cablaggio, sono disponibili Convertitore di Media PoE multiporta che consentono il concatenamento, grazie a una porta di uplink e una di downlink in fibra, della fibra tra due convertitore di media (costruzione conosciuta anche come architettura bus).
Una seconda opzione prevede l'impiego di collegamenti in fibra ridondanti per installazioni che richiedono la protezione della struttura in fibra. In questo caso, una porta in fibra attiva e una porta in fibra di protezione sono in grado di supportare uno switchover, in caso di interruzione del collegamento in fibra, inferiore ai 50 millesimi di secondo. Il convertitore di media PoE+ fornisce alimentazione alla videocamera e riceve protezione in caso di assenza di alimentazione da un dispositivo UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) di emergenza. In caso di interruzione del collegamento in fibra o di assenza di alimentazione, la videocamera continua a inviare dati attraverso il link di protezione.
Fibra Gigabit per Punti di Accesso Wireless

Estensione della portata a punti di accesso (PA) wireless mediante l'impiego di convertitore di media in fibra. Quando un'azienda implementa una rete wireless all'interno dei propri uffici o del magazzino, dovrà installare numerosi PA all'interno della struttura per garantire la copertura completa. Per raggiungere i vari PA installati, è molto probabile che l'amministratore di rete si troverà a oltrepassare la soglia dei 100 metri supportata dai collegamenti in rame.
Ai punti di accesso installati a soffitto o in altre aree difficilmente accessibili, i Convertitori di Media PoE possono anche fornire alimentazione PoE standard, o pre-standard, nel caso di punti di accesso implementati prima della ratificazione dello standard IEEE 802.3af . Per punti di accesso wireless contenenti dispositivi di trasmissione radio duplici, che richiedono più di 15,4 watt di potenza, sono disponibili anche modelli PoE+ in grado di arrivare fino a 30 watt.
La fibra viene implementata da un data closet esistente a un'area con accesso all'alimentazione. Per semplificare il cablaggio, sono disponibili Convertitore di Media PoE multiporta che consentono il concatenamento, grazie a una porta di uplink e una di downlink in fibra, della fibra tra due convertitore di media (costruzione conosciuta anche come architettura bus).
Una seconda opzione prevede l'impiego di collegamenti in fibra ridondanti per installazioni che richiedono la protezione della struttura in fibra. In questo caso, una porta in fibra attiva e una porta in fibra di protezione sono in grado di supportare uno switchover, in caso di interruzione del collegamento in fibra, inferiore ai 50 millesimi di secondo. Il Convertitore di Media PoE+ fornisce alimentazione alla videocamera e riceve protezione in caso di assenza di alimentazione da un dispositivo UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) di emergenza. In caso di interruzione del collegamento in fibra o di assenza di alimentazione, la videocamera continua a inviare dati attraverso il link di protezione.
Fibra Gigabit per Workstation Desktop/Telefoni VoIP (Voice over IP)
Connessione di workstation e telefoni VoIP 10/100/1000 a una dorsale Gigabit
Estensione della portata a workstation e telefoni VoIP mediante l'impiego di convertitore di media in fibra. I Convertitore di Media PoE possono anche fornire alimentazione PoE standard (o pre-standard per telefoni VoIP implementati prima della ratificazione dello standard IEEE 802.3af).
Per telefoni VoIP contenenti dispositivi di trasmissione radio duplici, che richiedono più di 15,4 watt di potenza, sono disponibili anche modelli PoE+ in grado di arrivare fino a 30 watt.
La fibra viene implementata da un data closet esistente a un'area con accesso all'alimentazione. Un Convertitore di Media PoE, alimentato a 48 V CC oppure con tensione standard da 100-240 V CA, viene collegato all'alimentazione elettrica e al cavo in fibra. L'estensione della rete Ethernet in rame (su cavo UTP o STP) può così essere aumentata di altri 100 metri verso il telefono VoIP. Il Convertitore di Media PoE provvede alla conversione dei dati dalla fibra al rame, integrando l'alimentazione da trasmettere al telefono VoIP.
Uplink Ridondante a Doppia Fibra

Quando si estende la portata di apparecchiature Ethernet critiche mediante l'impiego di convertitore di media in fibra, un convertitore di media con doppia porta in fibra e funzionalità di Fiber Redundancy garantisce un rapido switch-over del traffico sul collegamento da una connessione in fibra agli altri converter.
Sono disponibili due diverse modalità operative.
Fibra Singola/Monomodo
Collegamento di porte in rame mediante un cavo in fibra single strand (detto anche "Bi-Direzionale" o BiDi).
Se si utilizzano cavi in fibra single strand, è necessaria anche una coppia di convertitore di media a fibra singola per la conversione da rame a fibra. I convertitori di media a fibra singola di Perle sono anche conosciuti come modelli "Up/Down". Ad esempio, il modello S-1110P-S1SC10U ("Up") e il modello S-1110P-S1SC10D ("Down"), illustrati di seguito, devono essere utilizzati in coppia. Il modello "Up" deve sempre essere accoppiato a un modello "Down" per gestire la trasmissione e ricezione di frequenze separatamente.
La maggior parte delle installazioni di convertitore di media in fibra monomodo sono di tipo "a doppio connettore" o "a doppia fibra" nel caso in cui un collegamento in fibra venga utilizzato per trasmettere e l'altro per ricevere. Tali collegamenti vengono fisicamente "incrociati" per accoppiarsi ai collegamenti di trasmissione/ricezione.
Tuttavia, per contenere i costi, o se la fibra disponibile è limitata, è possibile utilizzare la tecnologia WDM. La tecnologia WDM impiega frequenze di trasmissione e ricezione separate per comunicare attraverso cavi in fibra single strand. Questa tecnologia sfrutta il fatto che la fibra ottica è in grado di trasmettere fasci di luce a diverse lunghezze d'onda simultaneamente, senza che queste interagiscano tra loro. In questo modo, una fibra singola è in grado di trasportare diversi segnali o canali su lunghezze d'onda differenti simultaneamente.
Quindi, se si utilizzano cavi in fibra single strand, è necessario installare un convertitore di media di tipo "Up" a un'estremità e un convertitore di media di tipo "Down" all'altra per garantire la conversione da rame a fibra.
